Why keeping your check-ups matters now
Pregnancy is one of the times we most want to see you, not one to skip. Routine care — a check-up, a clean, a needed filling — is safe during pregnancy, and dealing with a small problem now is far kinder than letting it grow while you've plenty else on your mind. The best time for any non-urgent work is usually the second trimester, when you're past the early tiredness and comfortable enough to lie back.
Just tell us at the outset that you're expecting, and how far along. That lets us plan appointments around you, keep you comfortable, and make sensible choices about timing and positioning as your pregnancy goes on.
Sore, bleeding gums are common — and manageable
Many mums-to-be notice their gums turn red, puffy and quick to bleed. It's the hormones changing how your gums react to plaque, and it's common enough to have a name — pregnancy gingivitis — often showing up from around the second month onward. The instinct is to brush more gently or less; the fix is actually to keep cleaning thoroughly, twice a day, and get between the teeth daily.
We may suggest an extra clean or two during your pregnancy to stay ahead of it. If your gums are very sore or bleeding a lot, don't tough it out — come in and let us help.

Are dental X-rays safe during pregnancy?
The dose is very small and we shield you carefully, taking an X-ray only when it genuinely helps. Tell us you're pregnant and we'll postpone anything non-urgent where it's sensible to.
Can I have a filling while pregnant?
Yes, needed fillings are safe and better done than left to worsen. The second trimester is usually the most comfortable time. Always let us know you're expecting so we can tailor your care.
